Core Qualities, a gateway to human resources

The more a leader discovers about himself, the better he will be able to understand others and experience what is necessary for further growth and development. Besides awareness of his core qualities, he should also have some insight into the distortions of these qualities. Core qualities are attributes that form part of a person’s essence and expressions of the Self that generate inspiration. They are not so much characteristics as possibilities that can be 'tuned in to'. Just as radio sound quality is partly determined by fine-tuning it to the right wavelength, so, too, does a leader become more inspiring when he is tuned in to his own core qualities. And just as the capacity of the amplifier affects the final sound quality, so, too, does the creative capacity of a leader partly determine the impact he has on his surroundings.

Potential conflicts with the environment can easily be deduced from a person's core quality through a Core Quadrant.

When Daniel Ofman introduced the Core Quadrant® concept for the first time in his book Core Qualities, a gateway to Human Resources in 1992, nobody could guess how this concept would spread all over the planet.
In his own country it became a bestseller and sold over 120.000 copies, becoming one of the most popular and best selling management books ever in the Netherlands.
Although the essence of a Core Quadrant® can be explained in 5 minutes, it is a model which is deceivingly simple. In the afternoon session Daniel will cover the basic principles of the Core Quadrant® and how to use it on a personal level and in one-on-one relationships (Double Quadrants),
In daily reality we are facing three different aspects, three dimensions or three areas for attention. Popularized you could say we are living on three planets at the same time, the “it” planet, the “we” planet and the “I” planet. On these planets the inhabitants look at the world through a particular lens and as a consequence have their own preferences.
“It” inhabitants are fascinated by whether something is objectively true, measurable and verifiable. In other words whether you can prove it.
“We” inhabitants like to focus on how we interrelate and whether that is correct and just.
“I” inhabitants are mainly concerned with how something touches them, with beauty and inspiration.

What it all means is that we have to expand our capacity to simultaneously be aware of:

1 What happens inside me?
2 What happens between us?
3 What is the issue (content) we are dealing with?
The fact that we will need the rest of our lives to master this, I consider to be an understatement. That in order to make progress here you need to know yourself is obvious to me. That the Core Quadrant® an ideal concept is, is the subject of the afternoon session.

Evening session

If you look more deeply into the division of “I”, “we” and “it” it will become apparent that what we are dealing with is three “value spheres”, as Ken Wilber [1] calls them, namely art, morals and science. In their time, the Greeks called them “the Beautiful, the Good and the True”.

In the evening session Daniel will cover how to use Core Quadrants on an organizational level and how to facilitate organizational development and cultural change programs using Core Quadrants.

His clearly argued contention is that organizations must set limits on what they strive to achieve and must decide if and when change itself should be a goal in its own right. His integrated approach towards life, work and organization provides insights into why traditional managerial approaches are failing and will continue to fail, and what is needed to achieve better results with less waste of energy.
You don’t have to be a clairvoyant to see how well that energy is flowing. Walk into any company premises and you will immediately notice the crucial signs, even in the reception area. Are the staff members moving purposefully through the building’s corridors or is there a general lack of vitality?
Enthusiasm and commitment cannot be bought: they will come of their own accord as long as what you are doing makes sense at the rational, the attitudinal and the relational levels. Overlook any one of these three levels and your organization will eventually falter, and with it, its human face.
Building Enthusiasm and Commitment in Organizationsis the title of Daniel’s latest book and will be the essence of the evening program. It represents a wake-up call, a signal that managers and staff alike need to change direction.

About Daniel Ofman

Daniel Ofman (1949) studied Business Administration at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He started his career in Philips in the field of Logistics and Material Management. His interest in new forms of management led to his going for three years to the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, where he filled various posts, from plumber to manager (or ‘focalizer’ as it is called there) of the Business Division.
From 1980 he has been an organization developer, responsible for providing guidance to organizations in their development process. After having founded a semi-large consultancy company in 1984, he left his own company after 20 years to start all over again in 2004 and founded the Core Quality International organization development agency in The Hague ‘The Netherlands’.

 As a speaker, he is much in demand for seminars and congresses.

In 1992 his book ‘Core Qualities, a Gateway to Human Resources’ was published of which so far over 120.000 copies have been sold.
It has been translated in many other languages

In this first book he presented the Core Quadrant® concept, which is now widely being used in all sorts of educational institutions, from Universities to Primary Schools. In the last 15 years over 1500 professionals (consultants, trainers and coaches) have been certified to apply his Core Quadrant® both on an individual level as well as on an organizational level in mergers and restructuring processes.

He created a Core Quality Card Game, an Android/iPhone app (Core Quality) and in 2007 published You Just Wouldn’t Believe It a case study in Philip Morris (with Guust Verpaalen, vice-president Marketing and Sales Northern Europe). In 2008 he published Fancy Meeting Me Here…! (all about Core Qualities) and in 2014 his latest book Building Commitment and Enthusiasm in Organisations was launched.
